ProMedica Bay Park Hospital has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), marking the first time the hospital has achieved a trauma center designation.
The designation recognizes Bay Park Hospital’s ability to provide comprehensive care for patients with mild to moderate traumatic injuries and rapidly evaluate, stabilize and transfer patients who require a higher level of care.
The three-year designation is an independent verification that Bay Park Hospital’s trauma program has demonstrated the resources, readiness, policies, patient-care processes and ongoing performance improvement necessary to meet national trauma standards.
ACS trauma designation goes beyond emergency department care. The rigorous review evaluates areas across the hospital, including facilities and equipment, availability of personnel and services, clinical protocols, trauma registry data, performance improvement and patient safety, as well as professional and community education.
“This trauma designation is a significant accomplishment for ProMedica Bay Park Hospital and reflects the dedication of our multidisciplinary team and EMS partners to providing high-quality trauma care for our community,” said Matt Hammond, president, ProMedica Bay Park Hospital. “It reinforces our commitment to having the right resources, expertise and processes in place to provide timely, coordinated care when our patients need it most.”
