For the longitudinal staffing component, the PGY-2 resident will be integrated into the weekend clinical rotation for the first half of the year (July to December). This will include pharmacokinetic monitoring and dosing, anticoagulation consultations, and clinical reports review. The second half of the year (January to June) the PGY-2 resident will staff every 4th weekend in the emergency department.
The pharmacy department at ProMedica Toledo Hospital has a centralized adult operations process with decentralized clinical services. Additionally, there are satellite pharmacies in the OR and pediatric areas. Clinical services are provided daily by pharmacists who manage/optimize therapy in specific areas of the hospital, including the intensive care units, emergency department, medical-surgical floors, internal medicine floors, oncology floors, pediatric floors, neonatal units, and more.
Pharmacy residents will identify a mentor during orientation based on practice interests, career goals, and personal compatibility. This mentor will act as a personal contact for the resident in all matters dealing with the successful completion of the residency program. Residents and mentors typically meet monthly to discuss resident progress. Mentors will also be present at all final evaluations for their mentee and are part of the resident’s quarterly development plan to monitor resident growth and identify areas of opportunity.
Residents are provided a shared office space with individual desks. Laptop computers are provided for resident use with docking stations and dual screen monitors in the resident office. Patient care phones are also provided.
The PGY2 resident will present a medication use evaluation at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and their research project at a regional pharmacy residency conference.
The PGY2 resident will be provided a set stipend to cover the majority of travel and meeting expenses over the course of the residency year.
