Each day, thousands of people care for the patients and families at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. From the frontline caregivers to people behind the scenes, each individual plays an important role in the history and continuation of ProMedica Toledo Hospital’s legacy.
The original Toledo Hospital was created in 1874 by a group of non-denominational Christian women in a small home near Bancroft and Cherry Streets. Their mission? To care for the poor and the sick. After outgrowing this original location, community members began a fundraising campaign, chaired by W. W. Knight, to build a new hospital at North Cove Boulevard. The new hospital location opened in 1930.
Since its humble beginning in 1874, ProMedica Toledo Hospital has been an important pillar of our northwest Ohio community, continuing to improve our health and well-being.
