Patient and Family Advisory Council
The Patient and Family Advisory Council is the voice for families at ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital, formerly ProMedica Toledo Children's Hospital. The Patient and Family Advisory Council is a partnership between parents and hospital staff members, promoting the concepts of Patient-and-Family-Centered Care and enhancing the delivery of health care.
Council meetings are held monthly on the second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital. The agenda of these meetings is to discuss policies and procedures that impact families, and facilitate activities that enrich the patient and family experience at the hospital.
Patient-and-Family-Centered Care: The Core Concepts
Patient-and-Family-Centered Care is an approach to health care that’s grounded in a partnership among health care providers, patients, and families. It redefines the relationships in health care.
As patient-and-family-centered caregivers, we recognize the vital role that families play in the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and family members of all ages. We understand emotional, social, and developmental support is so important in your child’s journey to wellness.
Patient-and-Family-Centered Care leads to better health outcomes, wiser use of resources, and greater patient and family satisfaction.
Principles of Patient-and-Family-Centered Care
- Dignity and respect. We listen to and honor your family’s perspectives and choices. Your knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural background are all considered in the planning and delivery of care for your child.
- Information sharing. We communicate and share complete and unbiased information with you in ways that honor you and your child and are useful to you. You’ll receive timely, complete, and accurate information so you can participate in care and decision-making.
- Participation. We support and encourage you and your family as you participate in care and decision-making at the level you choose.
- Collaboration. Patients, families, health care practitioners, and hospital leaders collaborate in policy and program development, implementation and evaluation, health care facility designs, and professional education, as well as in the delivery of care.
