Ebeid Neighborhood Promise
ProMedica's Mission is to improve your health and well-being with an ultimate vision of creating communities where all individuals reach their highest potential for health. To fulfill our Mission, we are committed to reshaping the healthcare delivery model to move beyond facility-based clinical care to focus on the root causes of poor health. Research indicates that up to 80% of our health can be attributed our lifestyle, environment and socioeconomic factors such as education, job status and other conditions known as social determinants of health.
The ProMedica Ebeid Neighborhood Promise (ENP) is a catalytic, multifaceted initiative developed to address social determinants of health and create a model for neighborhood revitalization. It is named after philanthropist Russell J. Ebeid who believed in a "hand up, rather than a hand out" philosophy for helping people improve their quality of life.
The model will focus on these four areas:
- Improving health outcomes
- Providing stable housing
- Increasing access to educational opportunities
- Offering job training opportunities
Beyond these key areas, the goal of this neighborhood revitalization initiative is to create and implement a viable infrastructure that will support long-term neighborhood health and growth. ProMedica will collaborate with New York City-based LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) to develop the model to be replicated in other communities throughout ProMedica's 28-county service area.
The ProMedica Ebeid Neighborhood Promise will begin in Toledo's UpTown neighborhood, home of ProMedica Ebeid Institute.
Engaging UpTown residents and businesses in the planning, implementation and evaluation of this initiative is vital for creating and realizing a shared vision.
