When’s it time?
Only you’ll know for certain when it’s time for hospice. Hospice provides physical, psychological, and spiritual care near the end of life. The focus of hospice care is to ensure the highest quality of life for a person who’s terminally ill.
What you need is a guided decision. Understand hospice care, how to choose a service, and how it can help and comfort you and your family. It’s one of many Continuing Care Services you’ll get, when it’s time.
What is hospice care? Unlike other medical services, hospice doesn’t seek to cure a disease. Rather, it focuses on comfort. Services are offered by professionals for the person facing death, as well as for that person’s family and friends. Hospice care considers all aspects of the person, the family, and/or the loved one’s experience including:
- Emotional counseling and bereavement support
- Non-denominational spiritual support
- Pain and medication management
- Practical assistance
- Medical direction and supplies
- Legal documentation help
Who can receive hospice care? If you’re unsure whether hospice is right for you, hospice professionals are always open to discussing your personal situation. Hospice care is intended for a person whose doctor estimates has six months or less to live. However, hospice doesn’t have to end at six months. Support can be offered for as long as your doctor and care team deem that the condition continues to be terminal.
Where can you get hospice care? It’s often offered in a healthcare facility that’s been certified for hospice care, though services can also be offered anywhere you call home: a private residence, assisted living facility, or nursing facility. We bring our services to you, as well as offer compassionate support and comfort at our ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence.
How is hospice care paid for? Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurances cover the majority of hospice care services. Room and board, however, may be a charge left to the individual. Understand that we’re dedicated to your well-being and offer financial assistance to those who qualify. Be sure to know your insurance and assistance options for hospice care.
