Learn what to expect when you’re admitted to ProMedica Herrick Hospital, and how to prepare for the most successful outcome when you return home.
When should you arrive? Check with your doctor about when to arrive for your procedure. Plan to arrive early to fill out your admissions paperwork.
What should you bring with you? Bring any necessary paperwork (like your doctor’s written order), insurance information, and photo ID. You’ll receive a hospital gown for your stay, but bring clothes to wear home. You may also bring glasses, dentures, toiletries or other daily-used items, but take care to store them securely while you are here. We aren’t responsible for damaged or lost items.
When can you leave the hospital? We’ll work with you to ensure your comfort and quick recovery. When your doctor determines you’re well enough to leave the hospital, you’ll get detailed discharge procedures. The exact time you can leave depends on when your doctor writes your discharge orders.
What do you do when you’re discharged? Our social worker / discharge planner will make sure you understand your doctor’s instructions for medications and follow-up appointments for optimal recovery. We’ll work with you, your nurse, and your doctor to arrange for any continuing care you may need, like rehab, home health care, or medical equipment at home. To speak with a discharge planner, please call 517-424-3000 and ask to be put in touch with discharge planning. If you need help arranging transportation home, let your nurse know. Remember to take your personal belongings with you as you leave.
