During Your Stay
Can you receive mail and flowers? Our volunteers deliver any mail and flowers you receive to your room daily. We’ll also forward to your home address any mail received after your discharge.
How can you make and receive calls? Calls may be received from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Outgoing calls can be made at any time. Local calls are free, but please charge long-distance calls to a credit card, calling card, or a home phone number. You can purchase prepaid calling cards in our gift shop.
Can you use a cell phone while in the hospital? Cell phone use is allowed in public areas of the hospital, including hallways, lobbies, waiting areas, and the cafeteria. You may not use cell phones within six feet of medical equipment, or in restricted areas not open to the public, such as intensive care units, surgery, recovery, and the lab.
What television services are available? A TV and channel guide are available in your room.
Is there wireless Internet? Yes. WiFi is available throughout all patient areas.
What about your special dietary needs? You’ll enjoy healthy and delicious meals from our dietary department. We’re happy to accommodate your special food needs due to doctor’s orders or because of religious, cultural, or personal reasons. Call 6368 from your patient room to talk to a dietary representative.
How can you learn more about your procedure? Your medical team will describe your procedure in detail, as well as give you the chance to ask questions. You can also get helpful knowledge through Emmi®, an online program used by some physicians. Ask your ProMedica Physicians provider for an access code, and visit Emmi® to learn more about your medical procedure.
Communication, Support, and Advocacy
What about emergency contact information? Before your visit to the hospital, consider who is the best person to contact if there’s an emergency. This is usually a family member or a close friend.
Can you get an interpreter? We’re happy to provide language translation services to you or your loved one. Languages include but are not limited to: Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, German, Russian, Polish, Arabic, and Vietnamese. To request an interpreter, please speak to your nurse or call 419-783-4405. How do I make arrangements for interpreter or sign language assistance prior to coming to the hospital? ProMedica complies with all federal nondiscrimintation and accessibility laws. Read more about how we comply here, or call 844-810-1634 to arrange for the services you need.
What if you have difficulty hearing? Sign language interpreters are available. If you have hearing difficulties, you can request a phone with volume controls.

Policies You Should Know
Can you get an estimate of your bill before your stay? You want to know what to expect. Call 419-824-9015 to review your insurance benefits with our pricing specialist. Together, you can estimate the cost of your doctor-ordered services. Review our price list for our most common services.
How do you qualify for financial assistance? ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital serves all members of our community, regardless of your ability to pay. What is the smoking policy? In keeping with our mission to promote health, we do not permit smoking inside ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital, or near any outside entrances. This policy applies to all employees, volunteers, physicians, visitors, and patients.
