Current Residents | Critical Care - Toledo
- Samantha Spetz, PharmD
Dr. Spetz grew up and graduated high school from Oregon, Ohio. She graduated with her doctorate of pharmacy in 2018 from the University of Toledo. Following graduation, Dr. Spetz completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency at ProMedica Toledo and Toledo Children's Hospital's. She has since stayed on at ProMedica Toledo and Toledo Children's Hospitals to complete a PGY-2 pharmacy residency in critical care. Dr. Spetz pursued residency due to her desire for learning and believes that residency would allow her to gain a deeper understanding into the "why's" of clinical pharmacy practice. Additionally, she feels it provides endless exposures to a variety of disease states and patient encounters.
Dr. Spetz was attracted to ProMedica's residency program for numerous reasons including the hospital's status as a level one trauma center, the large variety of critical care opportunities, and the enthusiasm the preceptors displayed for pharmacy and teaching. Her professional interests include neuroscience intensive care and emergency medicine.
Her longitudinal research project is investigating fluid resuscitation strategies for septic patients with heart failure or end-stage renal disease. In her free time, Dr. Spetz enjoys playing with her bengal cats, Luna and Leo, cheering for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and watching Netflix.
