Classes and Events
At ProMedica Wildwood Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, we care about the health and well-being of the community that we serve. We offer our community members and businesses a variety of screenings and educational programs annually, both on-site at ProMedica Wildwood Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital and throughout the area. We promote wellness by providing health risk appraisals, health clinics, education, fitness activities and resources, and referrals.
Pre-Op University is a free educational class created especially for anyone considering or already scheduled for joint surgery. In this 90-minute class, you will gain the tools you need to successfully move from hospital to recovery. Your orthopaedic healthcare team will answer questions and discuss rehabilitation, post-surgery goals and the road to recovery.
You are encouraged to have a family member or friend attend Pre-Op University with you to become your “coach.” This person will play an important role in the success of your recovery.
Designed to help you and your family prepare for surgery, this class covers:
- What to expect before, during and after surgery
- Preventing complications after surgery
- Pain management
- Activity level/physical therapy/exercises
- The discharge process
- Preparing your home environment for recovery and rehabilitation
- Community resources that may be available after surgery
To ensure you are well prepared for your surgery and retain the important information provided at Pre-Op University, be sure to schedule your class within 30 days of your surgery date. Prior to your class, your surgeon’s office will give you a notebook with information specific to your surgery. Please bring this notebook with you to class. After you complete the class, you will receive a certificate of attendance. You must bring this certificate and your notebook to the hospital on the day of your surgery.
Pre-Op University is held Tuesdays, from 1 – 2:30 p.m., and Wednesdays, from 5:30 – 7 p.m., in the hospital conference room on Level 1.
