
Our Faculty
Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing a comprehensive, practical and hands-on educational experience. Our faculty includes a clinical pharmacist, social worker, clinical counselor and a diverse mix of allopathic and osteopathic physicians dedicated to quality medical education. The entire team works together to offer interactive methods of teaching, and our multidisciplinary approach to medical education provides important training in all aspects of family medicine.

Responsibilities: Splits time between the sports medicine fellowship and the family medicine residency as well as serves as a team physician for The University of Toledo and Clay High School. Implements osteopathic and orthopaedic / sports medicine curriculum as well as leading the Sports Medicine track.
Professional Focus: Sports medicine, osteopathic manipulative medicine; trained in ultrasound guided musculoskeletal injections; encouraging wellness through healthy lifestyles.
Outside Interests: Travel, scuba diving, sports in general (Notre Dame football, Red Sox baseball in particular), and staying active.

Professional Focus: Currently serving as Associate Medical Director of Paramount Insurance and Adult Director of the Northwest Ohio Cystic Fibrosis Center. Currently a Member-at –Large for the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Executive Council and Member of the ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital Quality Committee.

Jennifer L. Middleton, MD, MPH, FAAFP

Professional Focus: Research incorporating health behavior theories into patient education and medical technology’s effects on the doctor-patient relationship. Writing and editing medical literature. Active in the Family Medicine social media community since 2010, blogging as “The Singing Pen of Doctor Jen” and active on Twitter as @SingingPenDrJen.

Responsibilities: Coordinates the behavioral science component of training including formal didactics and regular meetings with each resident class to discuss patient care and other topics pertaining to residency life. Schedules the community medicine rotation and is involved with the resident evaluation process.
Outside Interests: Animals, karate and vacationing in Colorado.

Tony Pfeiffer, MSW, LISW

Responsibilities: Resource person for the psychosocial issues and social work needs of patients treated through The Toledo Hospital Family Medicine Residency; coordinates the geriatric rotation, family medicine selective rotation and home visits by residents; rounds with the inpatient team and geriatrics service; patient counseling.

Virginia S. Hiltner, RN, MSN, FNP-BC, CNM

Responsibilities: Practice as an FNP and CNM – well exams, routine care, acute care visits, obstetrical and gynecological care. Precept residents in obstetrics: didactic, clinical and labor and delivery.
Professional Organizations: Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses, American College of Nurse Midwives and the northwest Ohio chapter. Medical advisory board member of the Pregnancy Center of Northwest Ohio. Mission trips to Haiti, Jamaica and Guatemala with International Medical Missions.

Christine Miller, RN, BA, C-TAGME

Responsibilities: Marketing and recruiting aspects of the program; coordinates attending physician and resident rotation schedules; oversees medical student rotations and the development of hands-on student workshops.
