When an illness or injury is life-threatening or requires constant attention and care by specialists, then a patient requires critical care. Below, we have listed our major critical care services.
Coronary intensive care: The Toledo Hospital coronary intensive care unit, a state-of-the-art facility, is designed for patients who have suffered heart attacks, congestive heart failure and other serious heart conditions.
Heart and Vascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit: The Heart and Vascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit cares for all of our vascular and cardiothoracic surgery and procedure patients.
Medical intensive care: Primarily serving critically ill adult and geriatric medical patients, the medical intensive care unit cares for patients with respiratory failure, diabetes, renal failure, shock states and multi-system organ failure.
Neuro intensive care: The neuro intensive care unit monitors and provides quality care for patients with brain, spinal cord or trauma-related conditions. The unit also provides step-down care for some vascular patients.
Surgical/trauma intensive care: For surgical patients or patients with life-threatening injuries, this intensive care unit is staffed by experienced professionals who follow patients throughout their hospitalization and recovery.
Newborn intensive care: ProMedica Toledo Children's Hospital offers one of the largest newborn intensive care units (NICU) in northwest Ohio. The NICU serves 27 counties, with many infants being transferred from hospitals throughout the region.
Pediatric intensive care: The pediatric intensive care unit, a part of Toledo Children's Hospital, cares for children from throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
