Admissions and Discharge

We understand that hospital visits are rarely planned. When you need medical attention, you have more important things to worry about than policies and procedures. That's why we're here to help you through admissions and discharge process – from the time you arrive, and even after you leave.

At ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, we provide you with expert care, a comfortable environment and ready access to information so that you can focus on one thing: your child's health.

Our staff will check in with you often to see if we can do anything to improve your stay, and we will take all appropriate steps to ensure the safety and confidentiality of you and your child. We also care about your health after your visit. When you're ready to return home, our hospital staff may work with you to develop a plan for any further care that your child may need on the road to recovery.

Hospital pricing and payment can be topics of concern for many patients. We at ProMedica are committed to communicating with you in advance so that you know what to expect when it comes to the cost of services. Our pricing specialist can review your insurance benefits for the services your doctor has ordered to provide you with an estimate of your final bill. Hospital pricing for the most common health care services provided at ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital is available for your convenience. Visitor’s Policy

Rest is an important part of your care. But, we know that family and friends can help make your child’s hospital stay more pleasant. Unless the physician does not recommend visitors or the patient prefers not to have visitors, Toledo Children’s Hospital has a flexible visiting hour policy. Please check the unit posting or ask a nurse for that unit’s visiting hours.

Tobacco-Free Policy

All ProMedica campuses, including Toledo Children’s Hospital, are tobacco-free, indoors and outdoors. This includes our lawns, walkways, sidewalks, parking lots (including inside vehicles) and any other grounds that ProMedica maintains. As a courtesy, please also be considerate of our neighbors and avoid littering and loitering on properties that surround our campus.

Patient Representatives

We truly hope you, your family and your child are pleased with the care at Toledo Children’s Hospital. If for any reason you are not, please speak with your nurse or any member of the staff. You can also share your concerns with a patient representative by calling 419-291-4007. Patient representatives are available seven days a week. If after speaking with the department or unit director and vice president of patient care services, you still have concerns or are not satisfied, please call the Ohio Department of Health at 1-800-342-0553 or The Joint Commission at 1-800-994-6610.

Interpreter services

Toledo Children’s Hospital offers free translation services in many languages free of charge – including, but not limited to, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, German, Polish, Arabic and Vietnamese. If you or a family member is in need of an interpreter at any time during your child’s stay, please speak with a nurse or visit any hospital information desk.

Discharge

We realize that one of the first things most people think about when they are admitted to the hospital is going home. Getting you well enough to go home is our goal, too. When it’s time to go, please remember to make sure you have all of your personal belongings and to tell your nurse if you need help arranging transportation.

Our team is with you through every step of the healing process. To ensure that you receive seamless care even after your discharge from the hospital, our social worker/discharge planner may work with your nurse and doctor to arrange continuing care services such as home health care, skilled nursing, or hospice care. Paying Your Bill

Toledo Children’s Hospital actively works to contain costs while providing quality care. To achieve this goal, patients are responsible for paying copayments, deductibles or fees for non-covered services at the time of service.

Your bill will reflect the cost of your room, nursing care, meals, housekeeping, linens, tests, medical or surgical procedures, drugs, supplies, and special services such as physical or respiratory therapy. These charges do not include the professional services of your physician, surgeon, anesthetist, or other consultants. Some of these services must be paid to the individual physician offices and not to the hospital.

The hospital provides basic, medically necessary services free of charge to patients who are eligible for the Hospital Care Assurance Program (HCAP). In addition to HCAP, uninsured patients are eligible for the ProMedica Financial Assistance Program. Patients are responsible for paying co-payments, deductibles or fees for non-covered services at the time of service. The Toledo Hospital accepts cash, check/money order, and credit and debit cards including VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
