Tips for Managing Pain

How you manage pain from your condition will depend upon your diagnoses, with the details recommended by your ProMedica Orthopaedic Institute health care team after testing and consulting with you. Your pain level will vary, depending upon whether you are a young athlete working through a sprain or an older patient preparing for a joint replacement.

An important source of information on pain management comes from ProMedica Orthopaedic Institute’s Pre-Op University. This free educational class is for anyone considering or already scheduled for joint surgery. The course instructor explains and provides information to move you as quickly as possible from hospital to home recovery. In addition, , your orthopaedic health care team will answer questions related to your pain throughout your treatment.

To assist with current and later pain management, patients are encouraged to have a family member or friend attend some or all of their medical visits.
