ProMedica Laboratories North Campus Laboratory received CAP ISO 15189 accreditation from the College of American Pathologists in 2011. More recently, the lab expanded their accreditation scope to include the first floor laboratory at ProMedica Toledo Hospital and will continue to broaden the width of recipient locations throughout the next few years.
What is CAP ISO 15189?
The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the national governing body for all laboratories. The ISO 15189 is the name given to a voluntary accreditation that is awarded to those laboratories that meet a benchmark level of excellence in a number of specific areas. Requirements of the recipients include a commitment to the laboratory’s management system and to the continuous collaboration with other hospital departments. Most importantly, recipients must meet specific high quality standards, document a reduction of errors and risks, and meet cost control measures.
