The Myers Family
Esther Myers' decision to persue hospice care was her own. Esther's family and ProMedica Hospice were there to help her through the process.
Esther had received regular dialysis treatments for the past three years, ever since her kidneys had begun to fail. But, at age 95, she decided to discontinue treatment. And her decision was supported by her family and physicians.
Several months before making the decision to end dialysis, Esther had shared with her family that – should she ever need hospice care – ProMedica Hospice would be her choice, because of what she heard about ProMedica Hospice from a long-time friend. Esther also had prior ties to ProMedica, being the last resident to check out when the former Crestview Club Apartments closed on Flower Hospital's campus.
According to her wishes, ProMedica Hospice began caring for Esther in her retirement residence in Waterville. And, six weeks later, Esther realized that she needed round-the-clock care and chose to move to ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence.
After three weeks at Ebeid, Esther passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, 2012, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Esther's son, Jerome Myers, credits ProMedica Hospice's pleasant facility, efficient processes and compassionate care with lessening the anxieties of his mother and her family during a challenging period in their lives.
“I wish to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding care and consideration my mother, Esther Myers, received at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence,” offers Jerome. “We found genuine comfort with the staff. They were extremely flexible – tailoring the experience to my mother’s wants and needs. In the three weeks my mother spent at Ebeid, the staff became bona fide friends of our family.”
