Digital Mammography

As a woman, it’s natural to be concerned about your breast health. One of the most important things women who are 40 years old or older can do is to have an annual screening mammogram, these help in the early detection of breast cancer. The Women’s Health Center in Lenawee County has the only dedicated mammography suite for screening and diagnostic mammograms.

Screening Mammograms

A mammogram is a safe procedure that uses low doses of radiation to produce high-quality images of the breast and help detect and diagnose breast disease. Using digital mammography, your radiologist is able to adjust and enhance a digital image using a computer to detect any abnormalities in the breast. This means that you will receive a more accurate diagnosis.

Diagnostic Mammograms

Diagnostic mammograms are commonly prescribed when a screening mammogram detects a possible abnormality and for women who have had a lumpectomy for the first seven years following radiation therapy.

Diagnostic mammograms are also used when you are experiencing symptoms like:

  • A lump in the breast or under the arm
  • Skin changes, such as redness, dimpling or thickening
  • Nipple changes, such as inversion, retraction, erosion, weeping and itching
  • Spontaneous nipple discharge
  • A change in breast size

Because our services are housed in a centralized site, patients benefit from a coordinated and efficient program. In fact, immediate appointments are available. Additionally, breast ultrasounds and biopsies are often performed on the same day in order to fully address a concern in a single visit. Most patients leave with results or a biopsy the same day.
