Curriculum

The Flower Hospital Family Medicine Residency offers challenging curricula to help residents become competent physicians and practice in a variety of settings.

Our residency is a three-year, community-based program. You will learn under the tutelage of accomplished faculty physicians with more than 65 years’ combined experience in residency education. Our faculty family physicians and clinical pharmacist are all board-certified.

Didactics

Noon, four to five days a week

Procedural workshops

Circumcision, basic & advanced suturing, skin biopsy, colposcopy, casting & splinting

First-Year Rotations

Inpatient Adult Medicine* – 4 months
Inpatient Pediatrics – 1 month
Obstetrics – 2 months
Gynecology – 1 month
Orthopaedics – 1 month
General Surgery/Anesthesia – 2 months
Cardiology – 1 month

Second-Year Rotations

Inpatient Adult Medicine* – 2 months
Inpatient Pediatrics – 1 month
Obstetrics – 1 month
Gastroenterology – 1 month
Outpatient Pediatrics – 1 month
Allergy/Immunology – 1 month
Psychiatry – 1 month
NICU/Nursery – 1 month
Emergency Department – 1 month
ICU/Pulmonary – 1 month
Elective – 1 month

Third-Year Rotations

Inpatient Adult Medicine* – 1 month
Neurology – 1 month
Geriatrics – 1 month
Community Medicine – 1 month
Practice Management – 1 month
Ophthalmology – 1 month
ENT – 1 month
Urology – 1 month
Dermatology – 1 month
Sports Medicine – 1 month
Elective – 2 months

*Residents on inpatient family medicine rotation also get teaching rounds with the faculty on service those months.

Patient visit office hours

Office hours increase throughout your three years as your skills grow, so you’ll see more of your own patients. You also have opportunities to follow homebound and/or nursing home patients.
