Mary Ellen Falzone Diabetes Center
At ProMedica, we are committed to improving the health and well-being of people with diabetes. As part of this commitment, we are creating a Diabetes Center of Excellence to improve the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in our community. Named in memory of a young girl who passed away from complications from Type 1 diabetes, ProMedica Mary Ellen Falzone Diabetes Center will be the region’s first facility dedicated to diabetes education and care.
Located on the North Campus of ProMedica Toledo Hospital, the 55,000-square-foot building will provide pediatric and adult patients with the latest care, education, and many other services, in a convenient, centralized location. Patients will be able to see an endocrinologist, learn how to manage their disease and have their prescription and durable medical equipment orders filled all in one visit.
Specialized Care and Education
ProMedica Mary Ellen Falzone Diabetes Center will give patients access to an expert, multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, diabetic educators, dietitians, midlevel providers, pharmacists, and home health nurses. This qualified team will provide patients with the tools and encouragement they need to manage their disease. Some of the services provided will include:
- Diabetes counseling
- Insulin therapy and glucose monitoring
- Home care and telemonitoring system for high-risk diabetic patients
- Maternal-fetal care for pregnant women with gestational diabetes
- Pharmacy services via The Pharmacy Counter, which will be located within the building
Professional Training and Research
In addition to serving patients and families, ProMedica Mary Ellen Falzone Diabetes Center will serve as an educational resource for physicians, residents and clinicians. The center will offer hands-on and web-based training, as well as space for primary care based research.
