FCH Launches GrassRoots Green Program

GrassRoots Green fosters involvement of Fostoria Community Hospital employees, volunteers, physicians, board members and other key stakeholders in civic issues that affect the hospital and the communities we serve.

Fostoria Community Hospital (FCH), along with ProMedica Health System and the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA), has launched GrassRoots Green, a model grassroots advocacy program for hospitals throughout Ohio.

FCH was selected to pilot and implement this program with OHA because of its strong community commitment, rural location and unique setting in that Fostoria lies in three counties.

“The GrassRoots Green initiative may very well be the single most impactful initiative I have been involved in throughout my career affecting recipients of health care services,” said Tim Jakacki, president, FCH, and member of the GrassRoots Green Design Team.

FCH’s GrassRoots Green program was created by the Design Team of FCH employees, board members and volunteers to assist in creating and nurturing a culture of engagement for all involved. The vision of their program is to foster involvement of FCH employees, volunteers, physicians, board members and other key stakeholders in civic issues that affect the hospital and the communities it serves.

In September, FCH held its initial kick-off celebration, a community picnic, to create awareness and gain support from FCH stakeholders—its employees, volunteers, physicians, board members, members of the community and local, state and federal legislative leaders. This is one of many activities planned by the program’s Design Team. Other activities include, but are not limited to: voter registration drives, community “Town Hall” meetings at the hospital and candidate debates.
