ProMedica Health System, a locally owned, not-for-profit health care organization, was formed in Toledo, Ohio, in 1986. Since its inception, ProMedica has grown into one of the nation's most integrated health systems.

ProMedica is comprised of over 70 corporations and joint ventures, serving 27 counties throughout northwest and west central Ohio, and southeast Michigan. It is comprised of ten hospitals and more than 283 sites, employing over 15,000 employees. More than 2.5 million patients are served by ProMedica annually and are cared for by more than 2,900 physicians.

Continually striving to be the best in health care, ProMedica serves its communities through five divisions—ProMedica Ambulatory and Acute Care; ProMedica Physician Group; ProMedica Health, Education and Research Corporation; ProMedica Continuing Care Services Corporation; and ProMedica Insurance Corporation. These divisions work collaboratively, integrating services to provide comprehensive health services across all spectrums of life.

Goals and Initiatives for ProMedica Health System 2010

ProMedica Health System was formed in 1986 and is a Toledo, Ohio-based, not-for-profit health care organization with approximately 15,000 employees, 2,900 physicians and more than 283 facilities in Ohio and Michigan. For the last five years, it has been ranked among the Top five most integrated health systems in the U.S.

ProMedica facilities treat more than 2.4 million patients annually and include 10 hospitals across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. ProMedica Continuing Care Services provide senior, rehabilitation and integrative services. ProMedica Physician Group is a large network of primary care and specialty physicians.

This mission-based organization has operated effectively because of its focus on results and clearly defined values of the organization. These values, in turn, are the genesis of annual goals based on a culmination of market demands, community resources and healthcare reform. Thus, ProMedica’s focus in 2010 through 2012 will be on the following goals and initiatives:

  1. Develop nationally recognized institutes and partnerships in cancer, orthopaedics, heart and vascular, women and children’s and neurosciences.
  2. Continue physician recruitment in specialties including surgery, orthopaedics, gastroenterology and oncology.
  3. Continue development of state-of-the-art information technology in ProMedica facilities.
  4. Appropriately respond to provisions of National Healthcare Reform to best serve all patients and families.
  5. Provide screenings (such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose) for underserved populations to improve community health and wellness.
  6. Expand ProMedica’s award-winning Fields of Green program.
  7. Improve quality, safety and service performance to better serve ProMedica’s patients and families.
  8. Provide good stewardship of financial resources as evidenced by maintaining current credit ratings.
  9. Ensure that ProMedica’s workforce plan addresses future needs for nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, rehabilitation staff, medical technicians and other clinical specialties.
  10. Continue ProMedica’s efforts to enhance academic partnerships with local, regional and national institutional partners.
  11. Improve employee satisfaction to ensure a highly-motivated workforce throughout ProMedica.
  12. Expand employee health initiatives to improve the health status of all ProMedica employees.
