Patients receiving care in the intensive care unit will now benefit from an extra layer of clinical care thanks to new, cutting-edge technology that is revolutionizing the delivery of critical care services at ProMedica hospitals. eICU®ProMedica is one of only 36 programs in the United States and the first in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
eICU® ProMedica is a sophisticated telemedicine system provided for patients in critical care units. Staffed by intensive care physicians and critical care nurses, eICU® ProMedica allows the clinical team to monitor patient conditions around the clock, reminiscent of the way air traffic control personnel supervise airspace. Private, high-speed data lines deliver vital signs, medications, blood test results and other information to the eICU® ProMedica team. A powerful computer system analyzes data, trends and patterns to anticipate any potential problems, and provides the latest medical reference and best practice information. In addition, the eICU® ProMedica team is linked to each patient’s bedside through video cameras and microphones to make “virtual rounds” and respond real-time to changing patient conditions.
