The Center for Sleep Disorders at Bay Park Community Hospital offers a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Patients suffer from sleep conditions such as:

  • Insomnia
  • Difficulty staying awake or adhering to a consistent sleep/wake cycle
  • Snoring
  • Sleepwalking
  • Frequent morning headaches
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Night terrors and other problems that interfere with restful sleep

Monitoring the patient’s different sleep stages provides the staff with the information needed to classify and treat their specific sleep disorder. The Center is staffed with physicians who are board certified in sleep disorders.

The Center works with most major insurance carriers and all the local suppliers of home health care equipment.

The rooms are spacious and have many amenities, including:

  • Queen-size bed
  • Private bathroom with shower
  • TV and DVD player
  • Couch, chairs and fans

The Center is located in the hospital away from direct patient care areas for privacy and comfort. The advantage of being located in the hospital is the immediate access to emergency medical care should the need arise.

The Center is within easy walking distance of restaurants, as well as a Meijer superstore. There are 2.1 miles of fitness trails around the campus, as well as a large pond with a beautiful fountain.

Managing diabetes affects all aspects of the individual's life: meal planning, physical activity, knowing how and when to take medications, what to do when schedules vary and staying motivated. Diabetes education at Bay Park Community Hospital provides you with the correct tools, education and support to be healthy, enjoy life and prevent complications.

Following an individualized assessment during your first visit, our diabetes self-management training program offers both one-on-one and group instruction for ongoing education. You and your family may learn about the following:

  • Diabetes disease process
  • Nutritional management
  • Physical activity
  • Medications
  • Monitoring of glucose
  • Complications of diabetes
  • Goal setting and problem solving
  • Psychosocial adjustment

Either you or your physician may schedule your appointments for outpatient diabetes self-management training. A written physician referral is required. Medicare and most health insurance providers may cover the cost of a diabetes education program. Please call ahead to verify your coverage. Emergency Center Services   top
The Bay Park Community Hospital Emergency Center is available for patients and their families 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Combining the latest in medical techniques and technology, the Emergency Center staff is dedicated and committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care in a family-centered environment.

  • Staffed with board-certified physicians who have been trained specifically in emergency medicine and highly-trained clinical staff
  • Resources and staff to treat critically ill or injured adult and pediatric patients
  • To better serve the communities east of the Maumee River, ProMedica Air and Mobile Transportation Network is available to transport patients who require the specialized treatment available at our tertiary care facility, The Toledo Hospital and Toledo Children's Hospital.
  • Located adjacent to surgical services and radiology for quick, convenient, comprehensive care.
    Use of a state-of-the-art computer tracking and physician documentation tool, ED PulseCheck, to assist in patient flow and enhance delivery of care to the patient.
  • The Emergency Center utilizes a Fast Track area opening this feature from 3-11:30 p.m., seven days a week to accommodate the less acute patient providing faster service to all patients.

The Bay Park Community Hospital Short Stay Unit offers the latest technology delivered by a competent and skilled staff. The unit is situated conveniently near the Emergency Center and utilized by both the Emergency Center and non-Emergency Center physicians. Common procedures provided at Bay Park Community Hospital’s Short Stay Unit include, but not limited to:

  • Blood transfusions
  • Antibiotics infusions
  • IV infusions
  • Electrolyte infusions

The Bay Park Community Hospital Health Resource Library welcomes physicians, nurses, students, health care personnel, community members, patients and their families. The library provides access to a wide range of books, journals, educational videos and computers with Internet access. Other resources and services include complimentary photocopying, audiovisual equipment, medical databases and access to material not found at the Health Resource Library.

Heart Care   top
The Cardio-Pulmonary Center at Bay Park Community Hospital provides patients with immediate assessment, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and respiratory care. The Center provides diagnosis and treatment for patients in need of such urgent care. The Center specializes in:

Inpatient Medical Surgical/Step Down/Critical Care Unit   top
The family-centered interdisciplinary unit is staffed with registered nurses, nursing assistants, social workers and case managers.

  • 30-bed, medical-surgical unit ; 10 bed, step-down; and 8 bed critical care unit.
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Center specializes in acute cardiac or pulmonary diagnosis.
  • Intensive care unit has ACLS-trained staff to care for the critically ill patient.
  • Nursing staff trained in chemotherapy.

Prior to discharge, Bay Park Community Hospital staff educates patients and their family about successful at-home recuperation and useful recovery tips.

Bay Park Community Hospital (BPCH) nursing services embraces the value of family-based patient care by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for patients and their families. This family-friendly environment enhances the patient and family health care experience, thus decreasing family separation anxiety and promoting family involvement in patient care. Having families involved in patient care has been proven to create a more positive health care experience for both patients and their families.

Twenty-four hour visiting without age restriction allows family members to visit frequently. Spacious, private patient rooms allow visitors plenty of room for overnight stays. In each patient area you can find a spacious kitchen, and cozy lounges where family members and staff can relax and enjoy a beverage while debriefing, conferencing or simply relaxing.

In creating such an inviting atmosphere, family and patient teaching is an integral part of daily planning here at BPCH. At any given moment you can find a nurse teaching at the bedside, comforting a patient or family member in despair, holding a hand, or simply offering a warm smile.

  • Aquatic therapy - Aquatic therapy is the therapeutic us of an onsite pool assisting patients in managing their pain to increased range of motion, improve strength, to reduced chance of re-injury and help the patient return to normal activity. The pool provides an environment that can often be more comfortable for the patient to perform exercises.
  • Speech therapy - Speech therapy is the skilled intervention used to treat communication disorders, by evaluating speech, language, cognitive and swallowing skills. The therapist will identify problems and implement the most effective approach for treatment.

Athletes who suffer from any number of sports-related injuries are strengthened in a functional manner to accelerate their return to play. We work in conjunction with the Sports Medicine Clinic at Bay Park Community Hospital with sports medicine experts Drs. Workman and Freeman. Both of these highly-qualified physicians hold a certificate of Advanced Qualification in sports medicine, are graduates of The Toledo Hospital Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and are active members of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.

The anesthesia providers at Bay Park Community Hospital are trained in current modalities for pain control. Peripheral nerve blocks are utilized to provide continuous pain relief when possible. Brain wave monitoring is utilized to monitor for and prevent anesthesia awareness.

The Center for Wound Care of Northwest Ohio, located within Suite 100 of the Professional Office Building, offers treatment for wounds that are not healing properly. These may be wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation, pressure sores or other medical problems. Our experienced staff is specially trained to treat these types of wounds and help you get back to your normal routine.

On your first visit to our center, we will examine your wound and discuss your overall health. Our nurses will teach you how to care for your wounds at home. You will learn to bandage, clean and protect your wound from further injury. We will also help you get items you may need to care for your wounds such as bandages, dressing supplies, special shoes and special beds.

Our staff will involve you at every step of the healing process and count on you to keep your appointments, follow their instructions for taking care of your wounds, and let them know when things change between your scheduled appointments.
