H1N1 Communications
As a service to our employees and medical staff, ProMedica created this site to provide information you need about
the flu in one convenient, online location.
H1N1 toll-free hotlines:
Ohio Department of Health 1-866-800-1404
Michigan Department of Community Health 2-1-1 or 1-800-552-1183
What is H1N1?
- H1N1 is a strain of the flu (it has been previously referred to as Swine flu).
- It is a continuation of the virus that was first identified Spring 2009.
- Reason for elevated concern:
- Most individuals are non-immune—this is a new virus.
- The virus presents serious complications to young people and pregnant women.
- If a large segment of the population becomes ill it could impact the number of patients requiring treatment and the number of employees able to provide that care.
ProMedica Strategy To Address H1N1
In response to the potential threat that the H1N1 virus poses, ProMedica Health System has established the H1N1 Steering Group and the Disaster Management Advisory Council (DMAC) to help prepare for the challenges a widespread flu epidemic could potentially cause.
H1N1 Steering Group
- Provides direction, expertise and support of the system-wide efforts to prepare for an H1N1 pandemic.
- Helps to ensure understanding and compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, as well as the Ohio Department of Health and Michigan Department of Community Health recommendations.
DMAC
- Members are typically the disaster management coordinators in each business unit who are responsible for developing and implementing emergency operations plans and preparedness strategies.
The information contained on this site is intended to provide convenient resources for ProMedica Health System employees
and physicians only. The public is encouraged to visit public web
sites, such as their state health department’s, for updated H1N1
information. Members of the media should contact Tedra White (weekdays,
419-262-0371; after hours and weekends/media pager, 419-471-8101) with
H1N1 operational questions related specifically to ProMedica
facilities; all other public health questions should be directed to the
county health department.
