ProMedica St. Luke's Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Heart Failure Care

ProMedica St. Luke's Hospital Recognized for Excellence in Heart Failure Care

posted on: 09/13/2012

MAUMEE, OHIO, Aug. 28, 2012 – ProMedica St. Luke’s Hospital has been certified as an accredited chest pain center for its expertise and excellence in emergency cardiac care for several years. Recently it also received full Heart Failure Accreditation status from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). St. Luke’s is one of only three hospitals in Ohio to receive the accreditation for its commitment to higher standards and providing high quality care to patients with heart failure. SCPC’s goal is to help facilities manage heart failure patients more efficiently and improve patient outcomes.

Approximately five million patients in the United States have heart failure. It is a chronic, progressive condition in which the heart muscle is unable to pump enough blood through the heart to meet the body's needs for blood and oxygen. St. Luke’s Hospital has demonstrated its commitment to providing quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of rigorous criteria and undergoing an onsite review by a team of SCPC’s accreditation review specialists.

“Heart failure is currently the only cardiac disease that continues to increase in both incidence and prevalence,” said Donna Tennant, administrative director, critical care services. “At St. Luke’s Hospital, we are committed to doing our part to improve the lives of our heart failure patients.”

St. Luke’s Hospital has additional cardiac care services at its Heart Center. It offers state-of-the-art services with a full range of procedures such as cardiac catheterizations, coronary bypass surgery, and cardiac valve repair and replacement surgery. The center also includes a cardiac rehabilitation program.

The Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC) is an international not-for-profit organization that focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction. As the only cross-specialty organization, SCPC provides the support needed for individual hospitals and hospital systems to effectively bridge existing gaps in treatment by providing the tools, education and support necessary to successfully navigate the changing face of healthcare.
