ADRIAN, Mich., May 11, 2012 – ProMedica is pleased to announce the opening of the Shirley Dick Dementia Care Unit at ProMedica Charlotte Stephenson Manor in Adrian, Michigan.
ProMedica Charlotte Stephenson Manor
The Shirley Dick Dementia Care Unit will meet the Lenawee County community’s growing need for assisted living care for dementia patients in a secure, home-like environment. The unit is the county’s only facility dedicated to assisted living care for people afflicted with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
In Lenawee County alone, it is estimated that more than 1,500 people are afflicted with dementia and Alzheimer’s. As the population ages, the need for assisted living care for dementia patients will continue to increase.
The unit is named in honor of the late Shirley Dick a community philanthropist who was also a ProMedica board member and volunteer. Frank Dick, Shirley’s husband made a significant gift to the project in her memory. Other donors also provided the funding to make this much-needed service a reality.
The Shirley Dick Dementia Care Unit at Charlotte Stephenson Manor fills the gap between services offered which allow seniors to stay in their homes and the care offered in a skilled nursing home. The unit has 10 beds and provides a home-like environment. It is a secure unit which is critical for the safety of those residents with dementia. Specially trained staff will provide specialized dementia care activities and programming.
ProMedica Charlotte Stephenson Manor is located at 581 Kimole Lane in Adrian, Michigan.
