TOLEDO, Ohio April 6, 2012 - Paramount Health Care, a member of ProMedica, announced today that it was selected by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services (ODJFS) to provide managed care services in all three regions in Ohio. This will increase Paramount’s Medicaid service area from its current 18 counties to 88. Paramount has contracted with ODJFS for 18 years and currently serves nearly 100,000 Medicaid recipients in northwest Ohio.
On January 11 ODJFS released a Request for Application (RFA) for the provision of managed care services to Medicaid recipients effective January 1, 2013. The RFA redefined the current eight regions to three and allowed for limited managed care organizations per region. There were 12 applicants, including Paramount and the six other plans currently serving recipients in Ohio. Submissions were due March 19, and selection results were released today.
Paramount President Jack Randolph states, “We are pleased at the favorable outcome for Paramount and especially proud of Paramount’s employees and our high quality scores that allowed us to stay the course and ultimately retain the ability to continue serving Medicaid recipients. We look forward to serving communities throughout the state and will continue to build on our tradition of providing high-quality care and exceptional customer service.”
The next steps for Paramount are to complete contracting and credentialing with providers in the new region. Open enrollment is anticipated this fall.
Ohio’s Medicaid managed care program serves approximately 1.5 million individuals enrolled in Ohio’s CFC program, 129,000 enrolled in the state’s ABD program, and 37,000 children with special needs. Ohio’s Medicaid program serves more than 2.1 million low-income Ohioans.
