How Can A Cardiologist Help My Heart?

How Can A Cardiologist Help My Heart?

A cardiologist is a doctor with special training to find, treat and prevent problems with your heart and blood vessels, according to the American College of Cardiology.

If your primary care provider feels that you might have a serious heart problem, he or she will call on a cardiologist. You might see a cardiologist when:

  • You experience symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pains or dizzy spells
  • You have a heart murmur
  • Your doctor notes changes in your ECG (electrocardiogram) during a routine physical

Cardiologists also talk with patients about the risks and prevention of heart disease.

More importantly, cardiologists treat heart attacks, heart failure and serious abnormal heart rhythms. Their skills are required whenever decisions are made about procedures such as cardiac catherization, balloon angioplasty or heart surgery.

That's why ProMedica is committed to always having a cardiologist on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Meet a few of the cardiologists who stand ready to care for you and your heart.
