Bariatric Surgery

As a patient of the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Center, we want you to understand bariatric surgery and feel confident in your choice. That’s why our program is comprehensive: it’s not just about the surgery; it’s about being there for you every step of the way. We provide our patients with educational materials to read and informational seminars to attend. We offer psychological, nutritional and physical therapy counseling to our patients. Before and after surgery, our patients attend monthly support groups. We can even help you with insurance pre-authorization to make the whole process go more smoothly.

ProMedica Toledo Hospital

As a bariatric surgery patient, you will receive both your surgery and surgical aftercare at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Located in west Toledo, Toledo Hospital is the largest acute care facility in the Toledo area. Serving a 27-county area in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, the 794-bed facility is staffed by more than 4,800 professional health care employees. Our patients have access to the area’s largest board-certified medical staff, comprised of more than 1,000 primary care and specialty physicians.

All bariatric patients receive their post-operative care on Level 7 of the new Renaissance tower in rooms that are specially equipped to meet the needs of bariatric patients.

Medical Director

ProMedica Toledo Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Center

For 30 years, Patrick White, MD, FACS, has been one of this region’s most respected surgeons. As a clinician and professor, Dr. White has earned the admiration of his peers and trust of his patients. He has served on many medical staff positions at Toledo Hospital including Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Deputy Chief of Surgery and Chairman of the Surgery Quality Care Committee. Over the past seven years, he has performed gastric bypasses on more than 1,000 patients.

Associate Medical Director

ProMedica Toledo Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Center

Jose Parodi, MD, is a board-certified surgeon performing laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and gastrectomy sleeve surgeries at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He has 14 years of experience performing minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgeries. He completed his residency and internship in general surgery at Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, Ohio. He received his medical degree from University of Republic of Uruguay Medical School, Montevideo, Uruguay.

Dot Barnes, MSN, RN, serves as the ProMedica Toledo Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Center's coordinator. With more than 20 years experience as a registered nurse, Dot provides operational oversight for the program. She has extensive clinical experience in the care of bariatric patients and is committed to creating a supportive and compassionate environment for patients.

Patient Services Staff

ProMedica Toledo Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Center's patient services staff is your first point of contact with our office. The friendly members of this department will help guide you through the surgery process step-by-step by scheduling appointments, answering questions and arranging appropriate consultations. Additionally, our patient services staff will work with your insurance company to determine if reimbursement is available for your particular situation.

Registered Dietitians

Our highly trained registered dietitians provide critical education and guidance to patients both before and after surgery. By using clinically proven methods combined with valuable “real world” advice and expertise, our dietitians will help you integrate new, more effective eating habits into your life.

Surgical Staff

ProMedica Toledo Hospital’s surgical staff provides expert assistance to the surgeon during bariatric procedures. The physician assistants and surgical nurses who support the bariatric program have specialized knowledge of the unique needs of bariatric patients. As a bariatric surgery patient, you will be in good hands.

Hospital Nursing Staff

Following surgery, patients recover on Level 7 of the ProMedica Toledo Hospital’s Renaissance Tower. During this inpatient recovery period, a team of certified bariatric nurses will care for you. Specially trained and credentialed in bariatrics, our inpatient nurses are an integral part of our team and will help you through your recovery from surgery.
