Breast care is important for women no matter what their age. That said, the American Cancer Society recommends that all women have at least one baseline screening mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40. At 40, you should begin to have a mammogram once a year. And if you are 40 or older and have risk factors, you should discuss an appropriate screening program with your doctor. After all, mammograms can usually identify an abnormal breast lump as much as two years before you can detect it in a self exam. Perhaps this helps explain our insistence on the importance of early detection.
Throughout ProMedica, we’re committed to the fight against breast cancer and dedicated to providing excellent breast health services for women just like you throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. We start with early detection of breast cancer with state-of the-art digital mammography, as well as traditional mammograms. We can educate you on proper self-examination techniques, as well as the changes that naturally occur in your breasts.
We also have the state’s first dedicated breast MRI, as well as ProMedica Toledo Hospital Breast Care Center – the region’s premier imaging facility devoted exclusively to patients with breast health issues. Here, you’ll receive the most comprehensive, accurate and prompt screening and diagnosis program available in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
If you have breast cancer, rest assured you’re in excellent hands. Our team of experts includes breast cancer specialists such as oncologists, surgeons and pathologists who can provide compassionate care. Learn more about the ProMedica Cancer Institute.
